The highly anticipated war drama film ‘Ekkis’, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Sriram Raghavan, has successfully cleared the final hurdle before its theatrical release. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has granted the film a UA certificate, allowing viewers above the age of 13 to watch it under parental guidance.
While approving the film, the censor board suggested a few key modifications due to its sensitive subject matter. A 15-second dialogue referencing India–Pakistan relations has been removed from the second half of the film. Additionally, the makers were instructed to change the name of a tank shown in the movie to avoid potential controversy.
‘Ekkis’ is inspired by the life and supreme sacrifice of Major Arun Khetrapal, India’s youngest Param Vir Chakra awardee, who laid down his life for the nation at just 21 years of age. The film introduces Agastya Nanda, grandson of Amitabh Bachchan, in his Bollywood debut. Legendary actor Dharmendra plays the role of Arun Khetrapal’s father, alongside Jaideep Ahlawat, Simar Bhatia, and late actor Asrani.
Director Sriram Raghavan also revealed that Varun Dhawan was initially considered for the role, but the character demanded a more innocent and youthful appearance, leading to Agastya Nanda being cast. The film has a total runtime of 2 hours and 27 minutes.
Apart from the edits, the CBFC instructed the makers to include a special disclaimer at the beginning of the film thanking the Poona Horse Regiment, Colonel Hanut Singh, and the tank crew. Other technical changes include blurring liquor brands, adding anti-smoking messages, and incorporating archival images of warriors with an introductory voiceover.
