The Khanna police have claimed to have solved the case in which renowned Punjabi singer and film actress Amar Noori received a threatening call via WhatsApp from an unknown number last Saturday.
After investigating the matter in detail, the police found the incident to be an unsuccessful cybercrime attempt. A threatening call was made after cyber criminals hacked the WhatsApp account of a woman resident of Kapurthala. The caller did not directly demand ransom, but investigators reported finding that the modus operandi matched the trend of incidents of cyber crimes.

DSP Mohit Kumar Singla mentioned the prime suspect in the case was not a police personnel, thereby dismissing the earlier speculations.
“Based on our investigation, we traced Sandeep Kaur of Kapurthala, whose WhatsApp account was hacked by cybercriminals. She was exchanging messages with unknown individuals regarding fast money-making schemes,” said DSP Singla.
According to the police, Sandeep had been browsing philanthropic pages on Instagram, which flashed WhatsApp numbers for financial assistance. Upon contacting one such number, the respondent tricked her into sharing the OTP and allowed the cyber criminals to hack her WhatsApp account. Later, this account was used to make the threatening call to Amar Noori.
According to the police, further action is being taken to trace the cyber crooks. They reiterated that OTP or personal details should not be shared online, especially with unknown contacts.
