If industry sources are to be believed, director Mohan G Kshatriyan’s much-awaited Tamil–Telugu historical drama ‘Draupathi 2’ is now set to release during Pongal this year.
A source close to the film’s unit said, “The film is definitely now coming for Pongal. It will be out on one of the festival days. The team is working out the details, but the film is certainly coming for Pongal.”
Earlier, the makers had planned to release the film on January 23, as two major films — Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’ and Sivakarthikeyan’s ‘Parasakthi’ — were expected to hit screens during the festival period. The team had even explored the option of releasing the film after January 23 but before the end of the month.
However, with the makers of ‘Jana Nayagan’ announcing a postponement, a vacant slot has opened up during the Pongal release window, providing an opportunity for other ready-to-release films to arrive in theatres.
Produced by Chola Chakravarthy of Netaji Productions in association with G. M Film Corporation, ‘Draupathi 2’ has already generated significant interest among fans.
Sources reveal that the film is set in the 14th century and unfolds against the backdrop of the reign of Hoysala emperor Veera Vallalar III, the valour and resistance of the Kadavarayas of Sendhamangalam, and the turbulent shifts triggered by the Mughal invasion of Tamil Nadu.
Apart from Richard Rishi and Rakshana Induchoodan, actor and cinematographer Natti Natraj will be seen in a key role.
The film also features Y. G. Mahendran, Nadodigal Barani, Saravana Subbiah, Vela Ramamoorthy, Siraj Johnny, Dinesh Lamba, Ganesh Gaurang, Divi, Devayani Sharma, and Arunodayan, further enhancing its historical scale and dramatic depth.
On the technical front, Telugu dialogues have been penned by Samrat, while music has been composed by Ghibran Vaibodha. Cinematography is handled by Philip R. Sundar, choreography by Thanika Tony, stunt choreography by Action Santosh, editing by Devaraj, and art direction by Kamalnatha.
