New Delhi, Jan 7 (IANS): Renowned chef Kunal Kapur, who is returning to the new season of “MasterChef India”, believes that the frenzy around social media food trends often confuses people more than it helps them.
Speaking about how social media influences perceptions of healthy and unhealthy snacking, Kunal told IANS, “What has happened is that everyone is consuming social media at a very rapid pace and continuously.”
He explained that food-related content dominates online feeds, with people frequently making claims about what is healthy, unhealthy, or a so-called superfood. “Some of these claims are true, while others cannot really be vouched for,” he said.
For Kunal, health is not defined solely by what one eats. “Health is not just a function of what you eat. It also depends on how you eat, how you cook your food, when you eat it, and in what quantity,” he shared.
He also highlighted the role of individual body types, noting that certain foods may suit some people better than others. Eating the same food as someone with a different body type may not always be ideal.
Emphasising a balanced perspective, the celebrity chef stated, “No food is inherently unhealthy. We often label food as unhealthy just because it contains a lot of ghee or butter, but every food provides nutrition—that is its purpose.”
According to Kunal, lifestyle choices play a major role in determining whether food becomes unhealthy. “If we have a sedentary lifestyle, don’t move much, and don’t burn calories, then calorie-dense foods may not be good for us,” he explained.
Encouraging mindful experimentation, Kunal advised people to try recipes they see online but evaluate what works best for their own bodies. “Unless you have a specific body condition that restricts certain foods, all foods can be healthy. You just need to remember one equation: you have to burn what you eat,” he said.
“MasterChef India” airs on Sony Entertainment Television and Sony Liv.
