Shri Shatrughan Sinha and family calling on the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, in New Delhi on January 06, 2015.
A documentary series is currently being developed on the life of veteran actor and politician Shatrughan Sinha, who carved a unique place for himself in Indian cinema with his powerful voice and bold screen presence. The project is being helmed by well-known filmmaker Shashi Ranjan, who earlier received praise for the Roshan family documentary series The Roshans.
A story beyond stardom
According to sources, work on this documentary has already begun. The series will not only showcase Shatrughan Sinha’s rise as a film star but will also explore lesser-known chapters of his personal and political life. It aims to present the real man behind the public image—his struggles, choices, and journey through different phases of life.
Shashi Ranjan and Shatrughan Sinha share a long-standing friendship, which makes the filmmaker an ideal choice to tell his story with honesty and depth. After the success of The Roshans, Shashi Ranjan reportedly wanted to bring more inspiring real-life stories to audiences.
Early life and struggle in cinema
Shatrughan Sinha was born in 1946 into a middle-class family in Bihar and was the youngest of four brothers. Drawn to the world of cinema from a young age, he joined the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) and later moved to Mumbai in the 1960s.
Like many outsiders, his early years were full of struggle. He started with small and supporting roles before getting his big break in Kalicharan, directed by Subhash Ghai. Despite sharing the era with giants like Amitabh Bachchan, Rajesh Khanna, and Dharmendra, Shatrughan Sinha created his own identity with his unique dialogue delivery and fearless attitude.
Television and political journey
Beyond films, Shatrughan Sinha also became a familiar face on television. He judged shows like Kaun Banega Crorepati Bhojpuri and The Great Indian Laughter Challenge, connecting with audiences in a different way.
His political career has been equally noteworthy. He was associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party for many years before later joining the All India Trinamool Congress. The documentary is expected to explore the challenges and controversies of his political life as well.
Family support and personal life
Throughout his journey, Shatrughan Sinha received strong support from his wife Poonam Sinha. His daughter Sonakshi Sinha is now a well-known Bollywood star, while his sons Luv Sinha and Kush Sinha are also active in films and other creative fields.
Fans eagerly waiting
Although there has been no official announcement from Shashi Ranjan yet, the news of this documentary has already created excitement among fans. Audiences are eager to see the untold stories of their favourite “Shotgun” unfold on screen.
If made as planned, this documentary series promises to be an inspiring journey of cinema, courage, and conviction.
