Pop icon Britney Spears has revealed that she hopes to headline a concert at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro.
Organisers of the city’s largest free show are reportedly eager to bring the pop superstar to Brazil, according to Female First UK. When asked about the speculation of a Copacabana performance, organisers said, “We still believe in it.”
The 44-year-old singer has not performed live since her Piece of Me Tour concluded in 2018. If she performs at the Rio gig, she would follow in the footsteps of Lady Gaga, who drew a record-breaking crowd of around 2.5 million in May 2025, and Madonna. Lady Gaga’s two-hour concert was funded by the city of Rio de Janeiro to boost tourism, with approximately 500,000 visitors traveling to the city to attend. It was the biggest concert of Gaga’s career and her first performance in Brazil since 2012.
The Rio rumour comes as Britney vowed never to perform in the U.S. again.
In an Instagram post, Britney shared her personal reasons for avoiding performances in her home country, writing: “Sending this piano to my son this year. Interestingly enough, I dance on IG to heal things in my body that people have no idea about. Yup, and it’s embarrassing sometimes, but I walked through the fire to save my life. I will never perform in the U.S. again because of extremely sensitive reasons but I hope to be sitting on a stool with a red rose in my hair, in a bun, performing with my son in the UK and Australia very soon.”
Despite stepping back from U.S. stages, Britney expressed her hope to return to the global stage, entertaining fans in the UK and Australia.
